E831 Disk and Tape plan
Existing MOU
The DA Request appendix to the current MOU calls for six disks, each 2 Gbyte,
for a total of about $ 14K. So far, two of these 2 GB disks have been purchased
and installed. The DA Request lists eight EXB-8505 tape drives.
Disk prices have fallen about a factor of 3 since the DA Request was prepared.
To prolong tape drive lifetime, and for efficient data taking,
we need to log data to disk before spooling to tape.
This was not spelled out in the MOU DA request.
Based on the plan listed below, I suggest that we immediately ask for three EXB-8505 tape
drives, and three 9 GB disks.
We should purchase the balance of the disks and tapes closer in early 1996,
closer to the run.
